345-Project Final Animatic
Description: Using all
our story boards, working off our concept sheets, and using our log lines we
were task to create a final animatic of your story that is at minimum a minute
long. The animatic would have necessary sound effects that are public domain
and therefore free to use and voice acting when ever necessary. Once completed
we were task with putting together all our resources in a final turn in folder
and made available to the class for our animatic critiques.
Story Title/Summary: Castle in
the Sky
·
The story follows a young inventor who after
hearing rumor of an ancient flying city that is home to boundless undiscovered
treasure, plans to build a flying machine to find this city and make a name for
himself but due to the expenses of building such a ship he has rand into a
major road block that may cancel his plans before they even get off the ground.
While working he meets a woman who offers to fund his project in exchange for accompanying
him on his trip. He naturally distrusts the woman but can’t let an opportunity like
this pass him by.
Animatic Issues:
When making the animatic I was building off the last one which was way too
short. Taking that into account I made more images in order to make the story
more concise and flow better. I made sure to make sure all of them were
consistent in terms of quality but redrawing all my work was a bit too much of
a hassle. Getting the sound effects was easy to find online and the audio and
voice acting was all done by me, but I didn’t try to do any voices due to
having no voice acting experience. In the end everything came together so I can’t
complain.
Storyboard
Slideshow: Creating a simple slide show out of my storyboard was easy enough
but when making the story boards I worried about labels such as the timing of
each shot. I made sure to be vague enough so that wouldn’t be an issue. Shot Descriptions
are simple enough, so I don’t have to go into detail. This piece was simple and
no complaints.
Shot list: The
images for my shot list come from a variety of anime and jrpgs that focus on
flying cities and ships. They were easy enough to find I just googled all of
them and post them in a doc. Using them as inspiration for the city in which
the story is written was helpful as needing a place to have the story.
Character Sheet
Construction: When making the main character for this story I wanted him to
look rather simply. I wanted to give the impression that he was your average
guy with no special powers or legacy to him as that would kind of make him less
relatable. He was the main character, so I felt him being the focus of my
designs was obvious. The biggest issue was inspirations, but I took note from
fantasy story side characters who are not special like the main character for
design inspiration. I also took note of actual clothes in the real world to
really give him that normal guy look.
Script: The script
was rather easy to make but I don’t know if that has something to do with my
lack of script writing experience. Using the template from previous assignments
I wanted the dialogue to be as natural as possible when having the characters
talk and I feel as though I managed that part well enough.
Story Overall/Loglines/Titles:
This was simple as I am a huge fantasy nerd and had a lot of ideas to work with
but a game, I loved that focus on floating cities called Skies of Arcadia was a
big inspiration. Going off that all the pieces for the work just fell into
place, the character, story, and theme of adventure was a given considering the
nature of exploration is the thrill of discovering something no one else has
before.
In conclusion the project was simple enough the audio syncing was simple to understand once I opened up photoshop and getting voices was easy just using the voice recorder on my phone. This project while dense was not too complicated and I enjoyed it.
